As a parent, I have always encouraged my kids to enjoy fresh air and sunshine, every day, if possible. I was always one of those moms who simply put rubber boots and raincoats or winter scarves and snow pants on her kids, rather than keep them inside due to inclement weather.
I’m a firm believer that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created the world. I also believe He incorporated many elements in His creation that are designed to keep us strong and healthy. The Scriptures contain an abundance of practical recommendations for health living, many of which include various herbs, flowers and other natural remedies for numerous ailments.
In recent years, people have been frightened into avoiding direct sunlight. (Ironically, many of these same people regularly visit tanning beds.) Misinformation regarding a supposed connection between sunlight and incurable diseases, such as certain types of skin cancer has caused people to cover themselves from head to toe when outdoors or simply avoid going outside when the sun is brightly shining.
Thankfully, current data shows that sunbathing is not only not dangerous, it is greatly beneficial to human health. Thousands of people suffer serious vitamin d deficiency nowadays, which has many negative consequences on their overall physical and cognitive health. The World Health Organization recently reported that sunbathing can, in fact, help reduce cancer risk, as well as lower the risks of contracting type 1 diabetes, autoimmune disorders and other adverse health conditions.
The consensus is that lack of exposure to sunlight has, in fact, caused many more diseases and ill-health situations than overexposure to sunlight has ever done. Sunlight is also known to have tremendous emotional health benefits. People often feel a boost of energy after being in direct sunlight. To the contrary, many people report feeling depressed in winter months when hours of sun exposure decrease.
I’ve always suspected that the sunblock products people use are far more dangerous than the sunlight they are trying to block. It has never made much sense to me to slather a body with lotion that contains toxic chemicals in order to promote good health. From boosting your mood to helping improve sleep patterns and reducing risk of serious disease, direct exposure to the sun’s rays may be an answer to your health-related problems!
Don’t take my word for it, do the research!
