Going Holistic–What’s Good for Your Mind

Written by:

Last night, while on my shift at Michael’s, I met a lovely woman who thought I was very zen. What she didn’t know is that I was having one of the worst days I’ve had in a long time. She also didn’t know that my chronic fatigue keeps me from expending too much energy: I rest a lot, have quiet, stationary hobbies, and just generally don’t exert myself unless I have to. I was honest with her and let her know that I feel frenetic inside, not at all what I’m apparently projecting to other people. It has been a goal of mine for years to strengthen my mind so this summer, I have a few tools I want to begin utilizing.

First, these glasses. I’ll step aside and allow Wellness Mama explain why these glasses are beneficial. I have a pair in my Amazon cart right now–just waiting to see if hubby wants a pair, too. I am hoping that wearing the glasses will encourage me to feel more restful and ready for bed at night.

Something I’m already doing is listening to Darren Hardy daily. He’s been in my life for a little while. He wrote a personal development book that I cherish called The Compound Effect. That book changed a large part of my life and thinking. I get daily texts from Darren that include short vids and words of wisdom of how to propel my life forward. You can get these free inspiring texts, too–or have them sent to your email!–by clicking here.

Next, prayer. I will consider this as a type of meditation, by conversing with Him for a few minutes each day. I don’t know why, but it doesn’t seem to take much for me to feel far from The Creator and I know it will be good for my mind and heart to start praying again. I guess I have been too caught up in the Daily Grind and myself to remember that I need to talk to Him daily.

Finally, meditating. I have a Dropbox full of meditation audio files. They’ve been sitting there for about  6 months or more. I know– shame on me! Why is it so hard to make changes even though I know it will be good for me? So this is where I’m stuck: how do I force myself to do the above daily when it’s not been my habit all along?

Well, I literally wrote out a schedule. It won’t work for days that I work, but on my days off, I am going to discipline myself to follow through. My list includes the time I wake up, the times I should eat and take my supplements, and an hour for reading and meditating. I figure if I can get into these habits over the summer while I’m paying my college kid to school her siblings, then I should be able to continue through fall and winter and finish 2016 with some goals under my belt.

If you’re taking this journey with me, let me know what you’re doing. I’m most interested in what meditation works for you.

CJ Heath is just like everyone else: trying to find the calm in life. She’d like her zen exterior to be a reflection of her zen interior. She’ll let you know how this is going over the summer. Until then….ommmmmmmmmmmmmm……
