Man’s progress is a peculiar thing. While many inventions and advanced technology bring tremendous convenience and capabilities to our lives, there’s a definite downside to society’s industrial progression. We live in a toxic world now. In fact, studies show that most cancers are caused by things we breathe in, consume or topically apply to our bodies.
Remember long ago, when doctors would send people to the coast so they could breathe in fresh air and improve their mental and physical health? Since the waters along the coast are now filled with pollutants, it is logical to assume the air is, as well. Is it possible to detoxify your living space? I think so, yes.
It’s one of those things were doing something is better than doing nothing, even if you can’t eradicate the whole problem. Even if you choose one issue to focus on every month, by the end of the year you will have eliminated (or, at least greatly restricted) 12 toxins. Since the home environment is a place you might ingest, consume or absorb many toxins, it seems like a good place to start when your goal is to detoxify your life.
The following list shows practical ways you can start to avoid toxins as you carry out the normal functions of your everyday life:
*Stop buying cleaning products at the store and make your own. You can basically clean just about anything with vinegar and water. There are many recipes online for non-toxic, homemade cleaners.
*We humans like to smell good and we also associate cleanliness with pleasant aromas. However, when things like laundry, our skin, the air around us and our vehicles smell good, it’s usually because we have sprayed or washed things with scented products, and such scents are often highly toxic. Avoid perfumes and scented soaps, lotions, etc.
*Plastic is one of the inventions that changed the world. Many plastic products contain Bisphenol A however, which is chemical compound that is extremely toxic. Using glass is better or, at least try to find plastics labeled BPA-free.
*Hand sanitizers, especially those that are antibacterial, not only kill off your good bacteria in addition to the bad, they are often full of toxic chemicals.
*Use cast iron or stainless steel for cooking.
*Try to think of non-toxic ways to freshen the air in our home. For instance, you can use herbs in sachets or in pots with simmering water to release pleasant aromas around the house instead of using commercial air fresheners.
Taking off your shoes when you come inside is another good way to avoid toxins. You’d be surprised how many you track in from the outdoors! Lawn pesticides and other nasty chemical residues can cling to the soles of your shoes!
You will undoubtedly always be exposed to a certain amount of toxins in a modern world; however, there’s no reason you shouldn’t try to minimize the level as much as possible. Many people say their overall mental and physical health improves when they detoxify their surroundings and especially when they replace toxins with healthy alternatives.
