Put down your paintbrush for a moment and learn about the The Artist: the ISFP Personality. ISFPs are Introverted- Sensing- Feeling- Perceiving. ISFPs make up 6% of the population. Of this number, 58% are females and 42% are males.
ISFP personality traits
We find a lot of joy around this harmonious personality. It’s easy to get a long with ISFPs because they possess a laid-back personality. Their warm and friendly demeanor allows those around them to open up. Lucky for them, ISFPs are excellent listeners so they make excellent shoulders to cry on. The “S” (Sensing) ensures this personality is hands-on with projects, so much so that they often get lost in their work. ISFPs are less concerned about past and future and prefer to engage in life right here and right now. They are creative and artistic, which works well with their quiet and sensitive natures. Like their ESFP counterparts, they are conflict-avoidant and don’t like to force their beliefs and ideas on others.
Strengths and weaknesses
ISFPs are charming people. We can’t help but be drawn into their adventurous personalities. Their “live and let live” attitudes draw us in and their sensitivity to others make them popular and easy to open up to. This personality type prefers harmony to conflict and they are very good at being attuned to other’s needs.
ISFPs are also very creative and imaginative. These qualities lend themselves to the ISFP being a very artistic person, exhibiting their strengths through mediums such as song and art. ISFPs have the unique ability of being able to concretely display what they envisioned in their minds or felt in their hearts. This too draws us into the world of the of the ISFP.
Of course, as with every personality type, ISFPs suffer some “quirks” that can get in the way of total happiness. For example, these Adventurers love to be in the moment…which means they do not like to think too much about the future. They have an aversion to long-term commitments which can affect their love-life and finances. ISFPs can feel oppressed by too many rules, regulations and traditions. These visionaries don’t want to be confined to any paradigm.
It is unfortunate that the ISFP is easily stressed. It can be difficult for ISFPs, who live in the moment, to be surrounded by people who like to plan and follow rules. The adventurous spirit of ISFPs also makes them prone to becoming overly competitive. ISFPs can be poor-sports and take competitive losses hard.
More about ISFPs
Our world is not always sensitive to the ISFP personality. We need this personality type to help us envision not only what we can have right now, but what may come in the future. These visionaries are sensitive souls, so it’s important to nurture our relationships with them.
Steven Spielberg
“The most amazing thing for me is that every single person who sees a movie, not necessarily one of my movies, brings a whole set of unique experiences. Now, through careful manipulation and good storytelling, you can get everybody to clap at the same time, to hopefully laugh at the same time, and to be afraid at the same time.”
