Well-known actress Rene Zellweger has been confirmed to star in an upcoming film about marriage restoration. According to Christian Headlines, the movie shares the story of a man and wife whose marriage is in jeopardy after the husband, Ron Hall (played by Greg Kinnear) cheats. The wife, Debbie (played by Zellweger) is devastated at the man’s confession, but decides to approach the knowledge of his infidelity in a way that is very different than the norm.
The article explains that after having a “mysterious dream,” the wife decides to ask her husband to volunteer at the local homeless shelter alongside of her. She wants him to make friends with a homeless man who seems to have anger issues. The man’s brutal past makes him an unlikely target for such a friendship, yet the act of kindness that is done by this couple leads all three characters on a remarkable journey.
Zellweger expressed that she loves the story of this film because it follows many different “themes of healing.” A couple that was on the brink of destruction is put back together again because of their willingness to help others. Perhaps one of the best lines in the film is when the homeless man (Denver) tells the adulterous husband, “God is in the recycling business of turning trash into treasure.”
While the movie has not been marketed to movie-goers as a faith-based film, it was produced by Pure Flix, a Christian entertainment company, and Paramount Pictures. It is based on a book written by the real-life Ron Hall that was placed on the New York Times bestseller list. Together Hall and Denver visited homeless people throughout the U.S. and raised $32 million for them. Although Denver passed away in 2012, Hall still travels all over the country today, speaking for the homeless and raising money.
