Successful Folk Chime in on Starting the Day off Right

Success is a subjective term that may be defined in various ways, according to personal interpretation and experience. General dictionary definitions include phrases such as, “accomplishment of aims or purposes” and “attainment of prosperity and/or profit.” Most modern day success-seekers would agree that daily life is often a busy, if not chaotic endeavor; to achieve success of any sort, one needs to remain focused and persevere.

Equestrian experts often say that the finest of racing horses are always best “out of the gate.” By this, they mean that the horses get off to a great start in their competitions. Any type of hesitation or set-back at the starting gate is enough to throw off an entire race.

The same can apparently be said for us human-folk. Starting a day off right often leads to both immediate and long-term success. By observing “successful people”, one writer recently compiled a list of things such people seem to have in common when it comes to waking up and getting out of bed each day.

First, although it is always helpful to have a collection of skills in life, mindset seems to be equally important where success is concerned. Successful people have positive outlooks, backed by strong wills and determination, with a little extra dose of fortitude and perseverance thrown in to survive the rough patches that will undoubtedly arise.

Elite members of the U.S. Navy Seals say that in addition to starting each day off right, developing the habit of positive thinking is crucial toward obtaining success. Apparently, each of us thinks as many as 300-1,000 words a minute! These warriors advise us to make sure the majority of those thoughts positive, self-encouraging and affirming.

In addition to preparing the field for the harvest of success by the powers of positive thinking, successful people think ahead and develop a plan of attack for any potential obstacle or problem down the line. They also believe that the world is what we make it. Through confidence in our own power to impact our surroundings and relationships, we pave the way to future success.

Developing strong family ties, living good, clean, healthy lives and getting lots of exercise also appear to be crucial components of a successful lifestyle. Studies suggest evidence of a strong correlation between being physical and mental strength. In short, a strong body leads to a strong mind. It’s just as important to take the time and make the effort required to care for our physical selves as the effort and time we put into to caring for those around us or performing our workplace duties.

Successful people also make certain they spend lots of time with their loved ones. Family meal times, social interaction, and daily shared activities promote joy and an overall sense of well-being, increasing the chances of achieving life-long success.

Each person’s life is different, with various goals, dynamics, struggles, blessings and situations. Most of us share in a common desire for success, and it seems the secrets to achieving it are not as complicated as we may have thought. In fact, Peter Pan’s, “think happy thoughts” and Dorothy’s, “there’s no place like home” may have been more on-point than we ever realized!
