The Happiness Press – The week of achievements!

Written by:

Another week and another round of good news! Here is your weekly reminder that people have the capacity for so much goodness and light. Humanity accomplished so much this week that is worth talking about. It’s The Happiness Press and the week of achievements!

Some Good News show update

Last week, we didn’t cover Episode 5 of actor John Krasinski’s “Some Good News”, but it was a fun one! Most of the episode was dedicated to celebrity guests cooking recipes sent in by fans of SGN. Guy Fieri, Martha Stewart, and David Chang all fixed dishes while video chatting with Krasinski and those who submit recipes. If you missed it, check it out along with this week’s episode (which I’ll get to in a moment) for a double-dose of happy!

As for SGN this week, Krasinski took time to celebrate the graduates of 2020!

So many people, mostly young high school and college students, but some non-traditional students as well, aren’t getting to walk across the stage this month after years of hard work. Krasinski hosted a video chat with several of them to celebrate all they’ve accomplished. He even had several celebrity “commencement speakers” join and answer graduate questions! Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Jon Stewart, and Malala Yousafzai were all on hand to give encouragement and inspiration. Though I enjoyed last week’s episode, I didn’t cry, which is a first! But this week? I was a mess three minutes in! Go watch and enjoy!

Hi hi, Little Sebastian!

But SGN isn’t the only spot of good news in the world this week! Last Thursday, the cast of the popular NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation” reunited for a special episode. The entire show took place over video chat. The actors were obviously all participating in quarantine, and the writers had to get creative in their explanations for why certain characters weren’t together even though they were supposed to be married! For fans of the show, it was a delightful trip down memory lane, and the episode raised $3 million for COVID-19 relief. I, for one, can never have too much of Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman.

Tips appreciated

Many states across the U.S. are starting to reopen certain businesses this week. A couple of restaurants are reporting generous tips from customers. One restaurant in Texas said that a man came in with his family, insisted on having his bill doubled, tipped his server $300, and added $1,000 on top of it for the other workers! A takeout order in Maryland got an extra $1,000 tip as well. Stories like this are a good reminder that even though not all of us can afford to give that amount of money, every little bit helps.

Worth waiting in line for

In more restaurant-related good news, fast-food retailer Popeyes has started a competition for out-of-work musicians to re-record their commercial jingle. The restaurant chain has posted the sheet music and a learn-to-play video for singers and musicians to work out the tune. Popeyes says that they may even select several winners whose versions of the jingle will appear in commercials! Love that helping hand from Popeye’s!

There you have it! A week full of achievements brought to you by The Happiness Press. If you’ve got some good news to share, let the world know so we can celebrate you!
