There’s no denying the fact that our country is split on many important issues. Abortion rights are some of those issues. For many people, myself included, the right to life for the unborn child is important. Others view abortion rights as healthcare for women. When the Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision on June 24th, I was shocked but extremely happy. There were many who were very disappointed. I think a lot of the disappointment comes from the fact that many people don’t understand how the Supreme Court works. And many others have no idea how violent and destructive abortion can be to the mother and obviously, the baby. I believe if many people in the pro-choice camp researched the truth about abortions, they might change their thinking.

The Supreme Court ruling did not make abortion illegal

There is a lot of misinformation about the recent Supreme Court ruling. The overturning of Roe v. Wade did not outlaw abortion. It simply put the power to decide in each state’s hands. The swift reaction to the ruling revealed that many Americans have no idea how the Supreme Court functions. It also revealed that many people act purely on emotions rather than facts. If the pro-choice protesters did a little research, they may find some interesting facts about Roe v. Wade. The woman behind the case had a fascinating history and she made some claims about the case that prove to be the opposite of what most people believe.

Abortion is violent and harmful

It should be obvious that abortion is violent when you consider the fact that a successful abortion always ends in death. I think many pro-choicers don’t fully understand how abortion works. I’ve seen videos where pro-choice advocates reveal that they have no concept of how abortion works. Admittedly, until a couple of years ago, I knew that abortion was wrong, but I didn’t realize how horrific the process is. It’s violent and dangerous. Videos and testimonies tell about how it’s done and these are not for the faint of heart. I believe that everyone who considers themselves pro-choice should be confronted with this information. I think it would change many minds. Those who are so supportive of the right to abortion at will should not be afraid to confront the truth of the process.

What kind of civilized society makes it legal to kill the most innocent? Surely, a country with our wealth and knowledge could put programs into place to help pregnant women find alternatives to legalized murder. No matter the circumstances of the pregnancy, abortion is often traumatic for the mother. Encouraging her to kill her baby just adds to an already difficult situation. But we also need to encourage people to be responsible for their actions. Sometimes bad things happen and an unwanted pregnancy could certainly change a woman’s plans. That doesn’t mean that murder is the answer. Abortion is not health care. There are two humans physically affected in the process. One doesn’t have a choice. The other shouldn’t be able to choose murder.
