Man, I don’t know about you guys but I am sick of the Kardashians. I don’t watch their show or click on articles about them. Yet, the Kardashian/Swift feud has become totally interesting and given me a few thoughts about life and how to treat others.
Round One. For those of you who don’t know, Kanye released a song that refers to Taylor Swift as an expletive. He also takes total credit for Swift’s celebrity status…probably referring to the time he was a total jerk and momentarily stole her spotlight at the MTV Music Awards.
In regards to his song Famous, he documented on Twitter that he “had an hour long convo” with Swift and that she thought the line was “funny”. He even goes so far as to say that the lyrics were Swift’s idea. What’s he talking about? Well, let’s see. Here are the lyrics in question:
I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex
Why? I made that b**** famous
G** d***
I made that b**** famous
First of all, Kanye needs Jesus. Saying “G-D” is irreverent towards our Creator and if he were a Christian, my guess is he would never have written such foul lyrics. But let’s continue.
Round Two. Swift denies giving Kanye her approval. When accepting her Grammy award, she seems to throw shade at Kanye. Although she doesn’t call him by name, we have a pretty good idea who she’s talking about when she says, “there will be people along the way who will try to undercut your success”…”or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”
Round Three. Kim Kardashian-West decides to post a secret recording of the original phone call in question…the “hour long convo” West had with Taylor. On it, Taylor seems to be giving her approval over the line, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex”. She thanks Kanye for informing her ahead of time and thanks him for the flowers he sent. Kanye says several times that Taylor is a “friend” and he was glad she was being cool about it. What we don’t hear on the recording is him telling her about the lyrics that follow “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex”, when he calls her a “b****” and takes credit for her enormous success.
Let’s overlook the fact for now that Kim K. probably posted an illegal recording. The aftermath of what has followed the Kardashian/West/Swift conflict is one that sides celebrities on either Team Kardashian-West or Team Swift. The trolls have really come out on the net to slam all parties involved. I see a lot of defensiveness and fighting words in the tweets and instagram posts that have resulted from this nuclear feud. I have to shake my head at it all (can money not afford you some manners and kindness on social media??). I actually look forward to seeing how the rest of this unfolds.
Many years ago, my grandmother–whom I love and miss dearly– witnessed an argument between my sister and me. My sister, who has grown to be a wonderful woman and best friend, was quite the argument instigator back in the day. She was excellent, like most siblings are, at getting me riled up. After tolerating all I could, I lashed out. My grandma, who was working away in her garden and initially seemed oblivious, turned to my sister and said, “Well, how you like them onions??”. She turned back to her gardening and I felt triumphant and vindicated, which of course means that I never forgot what she said and the meaning behind it. You might know it better as, “Don’t start what you can’t finish” or “If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.”
Ultimately, we don’t know everything that happened behind closed doors or on that “hour-long convo” but what I glean is this: no matter who you are or how much money you make, be nice. Don’t be an offensive driver while you’re cruising through life…and don’t take sides. You don’t know all the details of a particular situation no matter how vile or innocent someone seems. Let the ones at Ground Zero take care of their business while you manage your own life. Once the dust settles, we can hopefully find peace together and move on.

CJ Heath does not like conflict of any sort, but she knows it’s bound to happen. She learned–the very hard way–that it’s best to keep your nose out of the business of others. She also learned that her grandma is funny and that bratty kids (like her sister) can grow up to be best friends. Paix!!
