You Got This!

Written by:

Ok. I confess. I am one of myriad others who listens to IFYL (that’s, “Intelligence For Your Life” for those who have somehow remained out of “the loop”) on John Tesh radio. Previously, I used to just tease my husband for his seemingly undying devotion to these periodic tidbits of supposedly practical pieces of advice permeating airwaves through listening devices of all kinds; that is, until I really started listening to what was being said, and realized that many of John’s sound bites have merit!

I have always been a strong proponent of “mind over matter” philosophies. I believe in one God, whose omnipotence led Him to create human beings with such intricate, complex, amazing, unique and inherent abilities that no other but He can even begin to fathom or comprehend it.

One of the most astounding things He created is the human brain. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that through the power of thought, and the reactive physiological changes that often take place within the body through thought, the human body is often capable of healing itself. Many types of healing are so subtle and swift that we are never even aware they have occurred because we never knew there was a problem in the first place.

That leads me back to the power of positive thinking—and, of course, John Tesh. (LOL) In a recent IFYL edition, Tesh spoke of the benefits of consciously thinking positive and success-promoting thoughts as soon as one awakens to a new day. Research, he claims, purports that the section of our brain that “imagines” is the same section that deals with live-happening events (which is why the brain has difficulty discerning reality from perception, hence, the reason merely thinking about running from danger causes your heart and lungs to kick into “flight or fight” mode). By “thinking positive thoughts” as soon as we wake up in the morning, we might increase our chances of actually having a productive, enjoyable and successful day, because our brain thinks those thoughts are “real” and begins to release hormones and all sorts of wonderful “this is great” stuff so that our bodies “act” successful before we’ve even stepped out of bed!

So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, inadequate, and like you are a complete failure in your never-ending list of to-do’s and multiple-hat-wearing endeavors, simply think, “This is going to be a great day and I am going to rock it” as soon as you open your eyes in the morning; and, you just might be surprised at the results! We’ve all heard cliches, such as, “you are what you eat” or “you become who you hang out with.” Apparently, “we can change our lives by changing our thoughts” might also ring true.

If John Tesh’s research buddies are correct, then thinking, “I got this” means, you got this!
